Custodianship

Maŋnyɛ Klo Dodue is the Chief Custodian of GaDangme Husbandry, Fisheries and Heritage Sites including: the sacred crops of corn and millet; the waterways of the fishing trade and waterbodies of Ga kroŋ (sacred water sites); as well as the gbatsui (houses of worship) of the wulɔmɛi (Ga priests), the wɛms (houses of ritual) of dipo, and Klowem (Krobo Mountain); its tɛkpɛtɛ and totroku (sacred rocks) on the plains.  For centuries, GaDangme ancestors have lived in harmony with Nature and continue, to this day, paying homage to the “Animating Spark” in both water and land.  A core feature of GaDangme traditional beliefs is the notion that ALL things - created under the Universe - posses a soul; and all souls are animated by one “Supreme Being.”  The GaDangme recognize the soul of Nature - as endowed with a unique power and intellect - and regard it as an intermediary between them and the Supreme Being.  In GaDangme culture, custodianship is a sacred responsibility, where one learns to speak the language of Nature and bears witness to the communication the Divine.

This is ever-present in GaDangme kusum, where credence is given to water and earth, as these elements are central to GaDangme ancestral rites.  As a custodian, Maŋnyɛ Klo Dodue’s role is to engage with these elements as messengers, and evolve the ecosystem to maintain harmony between GaDangme Land and Nature.

Maŋnyɛ Klo Dodue aims to build a conservation portfolio for GaDangme Land; one that contributes to the global causes of: seed sovereignty, sustainable fishing, water conservation, historic restoration, and mountain preservation.
